Presentation Night - Friday August 29th

The Garryowen Presentation Night is on Friday August 29th at the Oakleigh Districts FC club rooms (our training ground). Come and celebrate the end to another year of GAA football and hurling with the club and help award and thank those you have performed well over the year.

The night starts from 7:30pm and $20 will get you a spit roast dinner and entertainment from karoke by the players. The bar will also be open for drinks at good bar prices.

Hope to see everyone there!

GAA Results

Congratulations to the Garryowen Hurlers for winning the Knockout Championship final for the third year running in June. They defeated the Melbourne Shamrocks in a close final. Our Women footballers made the final but were beaten by the much improved Sinn Fein team. The Men drew Wolfe Tones in the first week and that is where their Championship stopped.

The League finals are finished for 2008. Garryowen unfortunately did not make any of the League finals this year with both the Women and Hurlers finishing third and the Men finishing fifth.

Sinn Fein finished the season well in all codes by defeating Wolfe Tones, Grace O'Malleys and the Melbourne Shamrocks in the Men, Women and Hurling finals respectively to take a clean sweep of the League competition for the year.

Three In A Row

Garryowen 1-08 Melbourne Shamrocks 1-05

"Twas on a dreary New years Eve, as shades of night came down…" Well not quite, but it was dark outside on a cool June Sunday afternoon when captain Brian Gannon lifted the cup after Garryowen clinched their third consecutive Victorian hurling championship with a rousing win over arch rivals Melbourne Shamrocks. In a low scoring final the champions combined a free-scoring start with some solid second-half defending to record the historic win.

Knockout Championships - Finals

The Knockout Championship finals will be played on June 1st at Gaelic Park.
Both our Hurling and Women's Football teams will be in the final of their respective codes and both are defending their trophy from last year. Our Women will come up against Sinn Fein from 1:30pm. The Hurlers will be again play the Melbourne Shamrocks after their narrow loss to them in extra time two weeks ago. The Hurling starts at the earlier time of 3pm.

Movie Night - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Thankyou to all the people who came along to our movie night on the 23rd May at Balwyn Cinemas. We had about 80 people attend to see the new Indiana Jones film and join us for drinks and snacks before the screening. Everyone enjoyed the film and was a great social night for Garryowen.

2008 Training

Training is on every Wednesday from 7pm at Oakleigh Districts Football Club on Princess Hwy. See Map here. Anyone interested in playing Gaelic Football or Hurling is welcome to come down and meet the teams and have a kick around with us. Games have begun and run through to late August.

Club Memberships

Club memberships are now available for the season. A range of options are available for players and supporters. Also new shirts will be available so you can wear the Garryowen colours with pride. For more information view the Membership page.

Knockout Champions

Congratulations to both our Women's football team and our Hurling team for winning the Knockout Championship on August 19th. The Women defeated Grace O'Malleys 6-20 to 1-6 and the Hurlers defeated the Melbourne Shamrocks 2-4 to 0-7.

Hurling Final - August 19th

Garryowen 2-04 Melbourne Shamrocks 0-07

This was a great all round performance from the Garryowen hurling team to retain the championship won in 2006. Playing the full game with a one-man deficit to Melbourne Shamrocks the hurlers dug deep to edge a close first half, hit a couple of vital second half goals and survive a tight finish to run out worthy winners.
