Finals Results

On the 6th of August the Garryowen Hurlers played the Melbourne Shamrocks in the League Final. As with the previous games this season, the final was always going to be close. The margin never got out by more than two or three points either way, and the lead changed at various times. The Shamrocks had plenty of shots on the scoreboard but Garryowen kept scoring the important goals to stay in touch and a late goal in the second half put them in front and it looked like they were to steal the game. However the Shamrocks managed to score three late overs to hang on to win the League 1-12 to 3-04. Thanks to all the Hurlers who played for Garryowen this year for all their dedication and hard work on the field, in particular Francie Collins who played his last game after 18 years with Garryowen.

On the 13th of August the Garryowen Women's Football team played Sinn Fein in the Women's League Final. Both played off in the Knockout Final and the two teams tied the last time they met. The first half was all Garryowen with Stacey Hill kicking an early goal and overs to Jess Harvey, Kristen Burke and Stacey to have the team going into half time leading 1-08 to 0-03. However Sinn Fein started the second half with two goals to narrow the lead and a third late in the half drew the scores level. In a thrilling finale to the season, Garryowen unfortunately fell one point short, 1-12 to Sinn Fein 3-07

50th Anniversary Dinner

Thankyou to all those who came and helped celebrate Garryowen's 50th Anniversary at our Dinner on July 22nd at Merrimu reception centre in Chadstone. We had 185 people join us to mark the event. Everyone enjoyed the stories about the club from founding member Billy Leo and past and present players Ted O'Sullivan, Francie Collins and Yiota Dimitrakopoulos. The club also thanked long term supporters Paddy and Muriel O'Gorman, Liz McDonagh, Ted O'Sullivan and Stas and Francie Collins for their years of support. Stas and Francie were also awarded Garryowen life membership on the night. Everyone then danced the night away to the live band. Thankyou to everyone involved to make the night such a success.
